An Auckland couple who met while walking their dogs are selling their neighbouring homes so they can embark on their next step together.

The couple, from the affluent Mount Eden suburb located five kilometres from the centre of Auckland, are selling up to move in together in a newly purchased townhouse.

Trev and Stacy, whose last names were not published, told OneRoof website they were each selling their family homes to move in together to a smaller property so they could spend more time travelling.

Trev, a retiree, purchased his home at 35A Marsden Avenue in December 2010 and moved in with his wife Louise and their two children, then aged 14 and 20.

Meanwhile, Stacy bought her home at 38 Marsden Avenue in March 2010 and moved in with her then teenage daughter.

They first got to know each other while walking their dogs around the suburb.

“That was as far as Stacy and I went. We just sort of waved down and said ‘Hi’ and walked past each other and that was it,” Trev told OneRoof.

But after Trev’s wife died of cancer in 2020, the pair started spending more time together and bonded over their love of the outdoors, red wine, dogs and travel.

Now, with the two eager to travel more, they are selling their homes.

Trev’s house is first to hit the market and is set to go under the hammer on November 20.

The two-storey modern home with a classic twist features four bedrooms, two living areas, separate dining room, three bathrooms, a study, double garage and parking for two more cars.

Outside, there is an undercover alfresco area with outdoor fireplace and a private hot tub all set in a low maintenance yard.

The home itself has been tastefully decorated.

“It’s too big for one person,” Trev told OneRoof. “ I’m rattling around with four bedrooms and a study. It’s a lovely home and it’s easy to look after, but it needs to have a family in here.”

Meanwhile, Stacy is set to put her house on the market in coming weeks.

She described her property as a renovated 1920s bungalow-style home which is more likely to appeal to young families.
