New commercial tenancy opens after popular Kingston sports bar closes

Sports bar Hale + Mary performed its football socks off in its Kingston location. The venue was practically a lockout every time a big game was televised and it hummed along in between.

Part of the reason was that there wasn’t – and isn’t – much bar competition in “old” Kingston and there certainly wasn’t anything with such a fresh offer.

The former Hale + Mary owners have moved onto fulfilling another bar void in the Woden Valley and the Inner South premises is now looking for a new tenant.

Duane Dawson of Dawson Commercial says the property is presented as a warm shell and would suit a seasoned hospitality operator.

“This location has really proved itself. It needs someone with fresh vision and fresh energy who can bring a new idea to the Kingston dining and entertainment scene,” he says.

“It’s a great space of about 300 square metres including a front courtyard of 66 square metres.”

The interior space includes a kitchen area, cool room and restrooms. Bi-fold windows also open along the Giles Street side of the building.

“It has a very contemporary feel and the right idea could bring some of the Braddon vibe to Kingston,” he says.

“The area has plenty of upside with new residential developments that will almost certainly spark a rejuvenation of its dining and entertaining options.”
