New Grace apartments set to transform Northbridge

New apartment development opportunities are a rarity in the lower north shore suburb of Northbridge.

So when the local council rezoned a stretch of Eastern Valley Way, Fiducia development director Marie Doyle set her sights on two neighbouring single-storey bungalows, both with enormous backyards.

“In terms of location, there isn’t a lot in Northbridge that’s close to schools and shops and with easy access to the city,” Doyle says. “This is a really perfect location.”

The site is about to be transformed into a boutique residential development of 33 north-facing apartments in a four-storey building designed by DKO Architecture.

“It’s got really beautiful bold, clean lines. It’s very classic and elegant on the outside,” Doyle says.

Coco Republic designed the interiors, including herringbone timber floors, marble accents, glass finishes and plush carpets.

The address itself has generous outdoor spaces, with landscape design by Anthony Wyer & Associates. Grace embraces its natural surroundings with a mix of indigenous and hardy vegetation on either side of the footpaths.

Northbridge Baths are nearby, and there are several schools and parks within walking distance.

Doyle says she has been surprised by the number of early inquiries from downsizers, including some interested in amalgamating apartments. Some are making the transition from large family homes in Northbridge; others are from further afield but want to be closer to the action in their retirement.

The project is also expected to be popular with executive couples and young families searching for a more affordable alternative to a freestanding home.

Grace launches to the public this weekend.

The Acre

One of the eastern suburbs’ most picturesque recreation areas is about to welcome a new neighbour. The Acre, a 27-residence project from developer Parker Logan, is to be built on the site of the old bowling green. After Woollahra Council sold the land two years ago, plans were drawn up to transform the land into a boutique residential development of two buildings, two and three storeys high. While the bowling green is no more, there are still tennis courts and parkland nearby, including a children’s playground. There’s direct pedestrian access to Bellevue Road and it’s a 300-metre stroll to the shops and cafes. Nicholas Tang Architects designed the buildings, minimising the use of hallways to maximise the interior space. The Acre includes 12 garden apartments. The building will be pet-friendly.

12A

It’s not often new apartments are built in the Darling Point, the elegant harbourside suburb between Rushcutters Bay and Double Bay. 12A, from developer Mark Alexander, is a three-storey building of just seven apartments, designed by Bureau SRH Architecture. The design makes the most of city views and leafy outlooks. Inside, finishes include European timber flooring, marble splashbacks and benchtops. Open-plan kitchens flow through to generous outdoor spaces. Edgecliff Centre’s shops, trains and taxi rank are five minutes away by foot. It’s a 15-minute walk to McKell Park and Darling Point ferry wharf, 20 minutes by foot to the buzzy shopping and dining scene at Potts Point and a half-hour walk to the CBD. Agent David Malouf says the project is appealing to downsizers and young families.
