Whitewashed timber, sandy hues, seashell motifs. Don’t expect to see any of these hallmarks of coastal style at The Pavilions, a new development of 14 townhouses in the pretty northern beaches suburb of Freshwater.

Though the homes are only 20 minutes’ walk from the beach, their style is decidedly inner city, featuring a striking grey and white colour palette, not to mention sleek concrete and reconstituted stone finishes.

Ray White Manly principal Adam Reeves says the design by Nettleton Tribe for developer IPM is unlike anything he has seen in this part of Sydney.

“It’s that raw, industrial, inner-city look,” Reeves says. “The buyers we have had so far love the fact that it’s different from what you tend to find on the northern beaches.”

Two architects, one of whom worked on the project, are among those who have bought since the project launched last month. Young executive couples and semi-retirees are also showing strong interest, Reeves says.

The three-storey residences are divided into five blocks of adjoining Torrens title townhouses.

Underground, each home has a double lock-up garage with internal access, light well and media room. The kitchen, living and dining rooms are on the ground floor and three bedrooms – main with en suite – and bathroom are on the first floor.

Built on one of the highest parts of Wyndora Avenue, most of the homes capture ocean views from the upper level.

Though the internal layouts are almost identical between the residences, there is a wide choice externally, ranging from 55 to 200 square metres in the homes yet to be sold.
