MICA is a Campbell’s newest boutique development that is exceptional in aspect.
Across three independent buildings, 19 exceptionally crafted homes, including nine apartments, terraces and four luxurious townhomes have been designed by Stewart Architecture.
MICA means “Middle of Campbell”, because, quite literally, that is where the development is located.
The building is inspired by mid-century modernist design with a contemporary twist. Using honest and authentic materials such as metal, brickwork and stonework, it sits comfortably within the existing streetscape.
Inside, the homes reflect this aesthetic with the use of timber, neutral tones and custom joinery, providing a warm and inviting space that is drenched in natural light at all times of the day. They are sleek, sophisticated and visually alluring.
“The living spaces at MICA are very large and, in some instances, they are larger than your regular suburban home,” says agent Theo Koutsikamanis of McGrath Estate Agents.
“The terraces in particular have a huge ground-floor living space with views to Mount Ainslie. The apartments are all north- facing and have elevator access for convenience.
“There are also three adaptable apartments, meaning they are disability friendly, which is something rarely seen across apartments in Canberra.”
The townhomes enjoy four full floors plus a double lock-up garage in the basement. There is a living area on the ground floor, bedrooms and bathrooms on the second floor, and the master suite solely situated on the third floor.
But it’s the fourth floor that really entices, with a second living area (which can be opened or closed) and two balconies.
“This upstairs living area can be transformed into a retreat, study space or arts area,” he says.
“And those who are looking at setting up a business from home might like to use the ground floor as their ‘office’ and the fourth floor as their main living area.”
Campbell is at the epicentre of Canberra and at MICA you’re in the heart of it all.
“Young professionals will love that it is close to Russell and the city, and within riding distance to Barton and Kingston – the business districts and the places we love to eat out and catch up with friends,” says Koutsikamanis.
“Yet, it is still just far enough away from the chaos, allowing you to slow down when you come home each day.”
But, Koutsikamanis says to date most interest has come from older people who live in the area and are looking to downsize.
“MICA seems to be ideal for those who have lived in the area for the past 30 to 40 years. They feel comfortable,” he says.
“They have habits grounded in the suburb – going to the same shops or the same hairdresser – and friends that live close by.
“They don’t want to lose this routine, but they are looking for that easycare lifestyle that MICA can provide.”
Expected completion is the end of 2020.
