The unusual shape of the block at Siena allowed architects at Front Studio to design a unique building, which is a contemporary take on the classic Tuscan villa.
“It’s got a central courtyard that’s an open courtyard, but it’s a very intimate courtyard as well,” Front Studio director Sean Hogan says.
The landscaped space at the centre of the building was designed to foster community and the northerly aspect of the building.
“It’s just an interesting space that’s quite intimate and foster gathering and community activity,” Hogan says.
“Over time, once the plants have established it’ll be like a green little oasis.”
The internal courtyard has allowed the architects to maximise views to both the sunny north side of the building, and the picturesque lakeside south of the building.
The design also plays on the Italian inspiration of Siena, meaning residents will walk through a small laneway, then the courtyard to reach their homes.
“The building’s sort of like a typical Italian courtyard house,” Hogan says.
“It’s got a sense of seclusion about it that other apartments don’t have.”
Homes have been designed to feel like the housing stock of the area, with high ceilings and large windows filling the interiors with light.
“It makes a very luxurious relaxing feel within the apartments,” Hogan says.
Layouts take advantage of all available space to create convenience for residents.
Carrara marble, natural stone and European fine oak reference the Italian design inspiration.
Interiors are slick, with clean lines and a monochromatic palate. Homes feature ducted reverse-cycle airconditioning and Miele appliances including induction cooktops, electric ovens and dishwashers.
Homes are available in one, two and three-bedroom configurations, as well as two penthouse designs. Construction has begun at Siena, with completion expected for the end of 2018.
