Builder and developer Frank Porreca loves the careful thought that has gone into Throsby. Well-paced development has led to a diverse mix homes in one of Gungahlin’s best suburbs, Porreca says.
He believes the lower price point of the suburb has allowed for interesting developments, which give the suburb an individual character.
“It’s certainly one of the superior positioned suburbs in Gungahlin,” Porreca says.
It features an undulating landscape that holds parks and ponds, bordered by nature reserves.
The 10 homes at Bandicoot Street take advantage of the space on offer.
“A floor plan that maximised your main living areas” was the goal, Porreca says, “giving people a choice of size, or an ability to have a larger home, without necessarily the larger expense”.
Clever design maximises amenity to the homes. The rear garages, which allow for a sunny private courtyard at the rear of the home, are one example of this.
“What we’ve got is the ability to have a rear lane garage, which allows for a nice, beautiful sun-filled garden between the garage and the house,” Porreca says.
An open-plan living and dining area looks over the rear courtyard.
A master bedroom sits at the front of the home, with an en suite and walk-in wardrobe. Upstairs the three additional bedrooms, each with a built-in wardrobe, open onto a central living space.
The homes are extremely energy efficient, with an average EER that’s nudging nine stars. Double-glazed windows, northerly orientation and well-insulated waffle slab construction all put the homes on a firm environmental foundation.
Two homes are still available for sale at Bandicoot Street. Construction is expected to begin in November or December.
