Infinity‘s site offered the chance to create a building that would form an iconic part of Gungahlin’s skyline.
“There was an opportunity to create a vertical tower on an elevated site that would achieve iconic views and would allow the development to become a landmark element of the Gungahlin Town Centre,” Peckvonhartel architect Marcelo Solar says.
This opportunity fed the sleek, future-orientated design.
“The design came from a desire to create an iconic facade. We went through a number of iterations to end up with a facade that is both striking and I think futuristic,” Solar says.
“We’ve given balcony access to most of the facade, which I think accentuates the uninterrupted vista.”
A shell of apartments surrounding the extensive car parking facilities ensures the building is enlivened from top to ground, while providing some residents with the novelty of being able to park adjacent to their unit.
Housing 420 apartments over two buildings of 19 and 24 storeys, Infinity will be one of the biggest in the ACT, Geocon managing director Nick Georgalis says.
A development this size develops its own feeling of community, Georgalis says, aided by the resort-style facilities at Skypark.
Covering a few thousand square metres, the sixth-floor community area will include a 25-metre infinity pool overlooking Yerrabi Pond.
The space also boasts landscaped gardens, a barbecue area and gym.
“It’s going to feel like a resort,” Georgalis says.
Gungahlin’s proximity means that residents will have access to the full range of amenity at the Marketplace.
The light rail will give residents easy access to Canberra’s centre, and facilitate the growth of the community, which is already one of the fastest growing in Australia.
“The light rail’s going to make an enormous difference to everyone living in Gungahlin,” Georgalis says.
Sales have been strong at Infinity, with just one third of the apartments still available. Settlement is slated for 2019.
