At the Wharf on Clyde everything is right round the corner.

These 33 homes face into the bay, and are just 10 minutes walk from the centre of town.

The gateway to the south coast, Batemans Bay has all the practicalities of an established town, alongside the cafes and cute shops of a seaside getaway.

The proximity to Canberra is a key factor drawing buyers to the bay, says Dene Lewthwaite, agent for the property. He believes Batemans Bay is the perfect size for living or for holidays. “It’s still a smaller town,” he says, meaning it’s “a bit quieter” than its rowdier, and pricier, cousins Ulladulla and Wollongong.

Units at the Wharf on Clyde take full advantage of the bay’s natural features, while providing all the conveniences of a new build. “All the units have water views,” says Lewthwaite, but the homes don’t rest on those laurels.

“They’re just beautifully appointed,” he says, with high standard fittings and finishes throughout the interiors.

The homes are set over three levels, maximising the sea views. An open-plan living dining area, overlooked by the kitchen sits on the middle level. A balcony opens up from the living area, the perfect spot to enjoy the sea breeze or an alfresco meal. The two or three bedrooms are upstairs, with the master bedroom boasting its own private balcony.

Homes feature solar hot water, integrated microwaves and dishwashers, built-in robes, a laundry and laundry chute. The double garage on the ground floor is suitable for storing cars or boats. Sales have been a comfortable 50/50 split between local and non-local buyers.

Twenty-nine of the 33 units are still available for sale. Completion is expected in about eight weeks.

Inspection time: weekends 11am-1pm. Agent: Dene Lewthwaite, Luton Properties, 0412 635 019.

Feature we love: Smart design makes these apartments suitable as both a practical home, or a comfortable weekender.

Who lives here: The perfect mix of locals and and weekenders keeps Batemans Bay buzzing throughout the year.
