There are renovations and then there are next level, eye-watering luxury renovations.
This freshly completed home fronting the golf course in Indooroopilly has been renovated to the tune of $2 million – that’s 42 times the average renovation spend.
While the annual Houzz & Home Australia survey found homeowners plan to spend an average of $47,000 on renovations this year, the owner of 57 Castile Street is no average renovator.
A commercial builder by trade, he spared no expense in bringing the best of his industry experience to his own home, creating a jaw-dropping property that features a spectacular outdoor entertaining area and backyard, a dream family floor plan and luxury design features not even seen in prestige new builds, says marketing agent Alex Jordan, of McGrath Paddington.
“It’s the most incredible renovation I’ve ever seen. There’s nothing else like it in Brisbane,” Mr Jordan says.
“A renovation of this scale and expense is certainly beyond the scope of most people. The usual spend in this area would be between $300,000 and $500,000. Two million [dollars] is certainly not your usual renovation spend but the owner wanted to apply commercial concepts and utilise his knowledge, using only the best materials and designs throughout.”
More than $165,000 was spent on joinery alone, while the fully glass-tiled, heated swimming pool that self-cleans, with undercover 12-person spa, cost $124,000. Home automation, which includes iPhone-controlled CBus, data CCTV and security, cost $88,000.
The owner used pre-cast concrete for the outside architectural design elements, commercial grade floor-to-ceiling glass and floor-to-ceiling marble throughout the wet areas.
With five bedrooms, three bathrooms, a wine cellar/tasting room overlooking the pool and a state-of-the-art kitchen, it is luxury on an opulent scale.
But luxuries aside, the house is a cleverly designed family home. With a thoughtful floor plan that boasts a wonderful sense of flow and a layout which provides perfect vision of the backyard, pool and basketball half court from inside the house, it’s proving popular with families already.
“This is what families want. They want to be able to see their kids from in the kitchen, they want easy access to the yard and this does all of that,” Mr Jordan says.
The house is set on a north-to-rear facing 708-square-metre block with 24 metres of frontage to the St Lucia Golf Links. Nearby schools include St Peter’s Lutheran College and Ironside State School.
57 Castile Street, Indooroopilly is listed for sale with a guide price of $3 million to $3.3 million.
