Inside this conventional-looking house is one of the weirdest toilets you can imagine.

A five-bedroom house in Halifax, Canada looks like a traditional weatherboard house – but it’s hiding a very strange secret.

Hidden at the top of the house is an attic bathroom designed to look like an Ancient Egyptian tomb.

The walls and ceilings are covered in hieroglyphics painted by artist Michael Lewis, leading it to be dubbed the ‘Tomb Room’ by the current owners.

If that wasn’t weird enough, there is a toilet and shower hidden inside a life-sized sarcophagus – perfect for those who want a reminder of their mortality while on the loo.

The listing says the Tomb Room is a “must see”, describing it as “a one of a kind room that transports visitors to ancient Egypt”.

Catriona Eleftheros from Coldwell Banker Maritime Realty is the selling agent for the property, which is listed at $CAD1,499,999 ($AU1,641,000).

The home was first built in 1859, and still retains many original features, including nineteenth-century plaster details and softwood floors.

A number of other international design features are hidden throughout the home, including Mexican kitchen tiles, an Italian marble bathroom with Sicis mosaics, a clawfoot bath, and swan-shaped taps imported from Spain.

For those who want to earn a little extra income, the basement has been converted into a self-contained living area with its own front door.

“This property offers an extraordinary blend of history, style, with the convenience of south end living,” the listing says.
