A forgotten but once much-loved Aussie theme park is for sale.

Fantasy Glades in Port Macquarie has been put on the market, with plans drawn up to give it a new lease on life and entice tourists to the beachside region.

With its medieval-style castle and small houses on the grounds, Fantasy Glades at 5 Parklands Close offers a moment inside Disney fairytales and Brothers Grimm fantasies. At this stage there is no disclosed price guide, agents advised Nine, but interest is flowing like Rapunzel’s hair.

It opened in 1968, was operated by George and Rosemary Whitaker for 35 years, and closed in 2002.

Generations of Aussies would visit to have their photos taken with the dragon statue which had flashing eyes and spurted water and smoke, see Snow White’s charming house and tour Cinderella’s handsome castle.

Online, Aussies have shared pictures of themselves as children climbing the three-metre tall boot from the nursery rhyme There was an Old Woman Who Lived in a Shoe, among other attractions.

Plans are afoot to improve the theme park, which has undergone a restoration, according to the listing.

Plans have been rubber stamped for a café in the castle and nine self-contained cottages.

Mother Nature was not kind to the site after its closure but the listing photos show it has been refreshed and is surrounded by verdant parkland.

Eight years ago the current owner Jeff Crowe acquired the keys and listing agent David Geary from McGrath Port Macquarie said Crowe has made huge improvements to the “tranquil” address.

“It has a bit of a hard life later on and Jeff has done great job reviving the place, and spent a lot of time and hard earned money to get it back to where it was,” he said.

Geary took two keen parties through inspections on Saturday morning, only three days after the campaign started, and said there has been significant interest from prospective buyers.

The property is for sale via expressions of interest.

Geary said local agents who grew in Port Macquarie have an “attachment to it” and touring the property while preparing it for sale conjured a lot of fond memories.
