The sprawling estate where Dr. Seuss wrote his iconic children’s books could be yours.
On the market for the first time in nearly 75 years, the home consists of four lots, coming to a total of just over four acres, in La Jolla, California, and is available for a staggering $US18.9million ($27million).
Listed by Barry Estates, agent Jason Barry is taking bids until 5pm August 17 (PDT) for the four-bedroom, four-bathroom property.
If you’ve got the cash to splash, you can purchase the entire four lots for $27million, or settle on one of the four parcels of land.
Prices for the individual lots range from $US3.9million ($5.6million) to $US11.9million ($17million).
While no interior shots are currently available, one standout feature is the office which contains a bookshelf with a door leading to a secret hideaway.
The estate is situated in a prime location with 270 degree ocean and mountain views.
A stunning outdoor pool and terrace area, surrounded by lush greenery, looks out to the Pacific Ocean, making it the perfect spot to rest and unwind.
Dr. Seuss – real name Theodor Seuss Geisel – built the home with his first wife Helen Palmer.
After Helen died in 1967, Theodor married his second wife Audrey Stone in 1968.
Theodor and Audrey lived on the property until his death in 1991. Audrey also died in the home in 2018.
Audrey gifted the sprawling estate to the University of California San Diego in 2019.
Money from the sale is expected to go towards a university fund specialising in campus projects.
Dr. Seuss has written and illustrated over 60 children’s books, with titles including Oh, the Places You’ll Go! and The Cat in the Hat.
