Homes for sale are often described as unique, but this particular property in Bondi really does stand apart.

After appearing on Channel Nine’s new series Unreal Estate, the infamous Birrell Street Manor has come back onto the market.

The home has drawn considerable attention over the years, namely for the owner’s eccentric sense of style.

Located 100 metres from Tamarama Park, the home is chock-full of antiques and collectibles that the owner, Kevin Du Val, has inherited and collected over the years.

Du Val, a chiropractor and iridologist, has used the property as a joint home and office for more than 40 years. He is now keen to separate his practice from his home and move on.

Selling agent Steven Forshaw, of Sweetnams Real Estate, says “the owner has put a lot of himself in this house”.

One of the more unusual features is the ornate pressed-metal walls and ceilings throughout the house.

“They’ve got a very fine pattern in them, lots of roses and flowers and different shapes,” Forshaw says.

“Each one has been hand painted – with gold with silver, red and blue. The detail in the walls and the ceilings is amazing.”

The ceilings, walls, chandeliers, curtains and assortment of statues are all included in the property, which has a price guide of $2.7 million.

It’s not the owner’s first attempt to sell the home – records show it was put up for auction in 2012. With any luck a buyer will be present at the first open home this Saturday.
