You could own and live in a slice of Yass history with this unique former Methodist church now converted into a spacious, four-bedroom, three-bathroom home.

Originally built in 1871 and located just a block away from the town’s centre, the property at 110a Rossi Street offers a commanding street presence with its period stonework features, arches, leadlight windows, soaring spire and white picket fence.

Thanks to a clever and tasteful renovation, today its interior is less like a public place to congregate and more like a cosy family home – but with a number of interesting traits.

As you step through the stunning cathedral timber doors to the entrance hall, you’ll notice beautifully rendered walls and oak floors that lead to the cavernous main living area.

“[It has been] renovated with all the comforts without losing the historical appeal and architecture,” says selling agent Karen Lawler of Yass Valley Property.

“When you stand in the front foyer, it just makes you want to look up all the time. It has such a lovely feel.”

Lawler says in 1907 an extension was added for the Sunday-school room.

“This is now a very functional modern family kitchen with sash windows and open fireplace,” she says.

In the heart of the home, cathedral timber ceilings stretch up high, creating an enormous sense of height and space. Original etched-glass windows throw “beautiful colours that dance around the rooms”, while overhead, balconies create a multi-use area for reading and relaxation.

The four bedrooms are spread over three levels; the current vendors used one on the first floor as a nursery and another as a music room.

There’s also a pleasant timber and brick-lined sunroom off the kitchen-dining area that was once a whiskey room created during renovations by a previous owner.

Lawler believes the home would appeal to those who want to own something “completely unique” that still offers comfortable everyday living.

Outside, tall trees provide privacy and seclusion, while established gardens will invite you to spend time in the paved courtyards.
