The founder of one of the largest online gambling websites, Joshua Chan, has sold his Bronte pad for about $12.5 million – more than $3 million above the auction guide.
The contemporary three-bedroom beach house at 7 Bayview Street was scheduled to go under the hammer next Saturday with a buyer’s guide of $9.5 million, according to the listing, which was held by Raine & Horne Double Bay’s Ric Serrao.
Co-listing agent Alexander Phillips of PPD Real Estate confirmed to Domain that the home sold for about $12.5 million.
Chan offloaded the beachside property after he snapped up a Bondi Beach penthouse down the road for a cool $20.1 million in March.
The upgrade for Chan was the most expensive apartment ever sold at auction in Australia.
It was just $4.5 million shy of the most expensive residential auction result set at $24.6 million when a Vaucluse house sold last year, smashing its reserve by $10.6 million.
Chan let go of the Bronte house, which has three bathrooms and four car spaces, after owning it for almost a decade. He bought it for $4.55 million back in late 2012.
The home, which has unobstructed views over the sand and surf at Bronte Beach, was designed by Sydney architectural firm BMA and spans over three levels.
It features two glazed pavilions with a beach vista, Calacatta marble in the kitchen and a heated pool with a cabana.
Chan is the founder of one of the largest online gambling information and player feedback sites, LCB (Latest Casino Bonuses), which has more than 145,000 members. His partner Melanie Attwell is the group’s marketing manager.
Chan’s registered corporate interests reveal the 45-year-old is also a part-owner of drone and remote pilot aircraft manufacturer Carbonix, and of the online financial advice site Life Sherpa.
His brother Paul is the founder of online marketing services company Pure Profile and their now Hong Kong-based father is the legendary restaurateur Augustine Chan, whose East Ocean restaurant in Chinatown was an institution in the 1980s.
