Actor Orlando Bloom has been called to take the stand in fiancé Katy Perry’s long-running, $22 million property war against a bedridden businessman.

The Hollywood star has been issued a civil subpoena to appear at Perry’s civil lawsuit in Los Angeles, as she seeks millions in damages following a messy mansion ownership spat.

Perry bought the California estate for $15 million (about $AU22 million) during the COVID-19 pandemic from Carl Westcott, the founder of a dial-up flower delivery company.

However, he backed out of the deal days after it was struck, on the grounds he did not have the cognitive capacity to enter into the contract with Perry.

He lost a subsequent legal confrontation with Perry in the Los Angeles County Superior Court over the true ownership of the home. The case spanned four years and, during this time, Westcott went into residential care for his failing health. Perry, 40, is now suing Westcott for damages.

She alleges she has lost $US2.7 million ($AU4.08 million) in potential rent, because she could not lease out the eight bedroom, 11-bathroom manor while the ownership case, brought by Westcott, was underway. That figure is now $US5.5 million ($AU8.3 million), the New York Post reports.

Lawyers for Westcott have subpoenaed Bloom to give evidence in Perry’s claim, according to a Post exclusive.

The Montecito estate that is the subject of much legal back-and-forth.

The trial has been ongoing but Bloom will appear in February next year, during the second phase of evidence, according to the Post.

The estate at the heart of all the bad blood is in Montecito, a neighbourhood with affluent residents including the Prince Harry and Meghan Markle and Gwyneth Paltrow.

Bloom and Perry were seen together on stage in September, as he presented his soon-to-be wife with the MTV VMA Video Vanguard Award. A few weeks later, she was on a plane to Melbourne to entertain footy fans at the AFL Grand Final.
