Outrageous family home has interior straight from The Flintstones

When building your own home, interior design is always a subjective thing.

Some will want a traditional looking abode. Others may go for a more contemporary or even avant-garde aesthetic.

The owner of this six-bedroom home in the American state of Wisconsin, however, has gone for what can only be described as ‘Stone Age chic’.

We’re not entirely sure whether the vendor of this $1.67 million (USD $1.2 million) residence has deliberately styled their house to look like a real-life version of The Flintstones… but whatever the case, it’s a compelling look.

Where to begin with this place? The grand living room looks like a cave man’s version of nirvana, with exposed, misshapen rocks, ferns and other forms of foliage lining the uneven, cave-like walls of the room.

The extroverted space also features several lagoon-like pools festooned with goldfish, as well as an aperture that appears to have once been a stairwell, which has been replaced by some sort of additional pool.

Adjoining the almost overbearingly unorthodox living area and accessible through a glass door is another weird room, which features a jagged concrete roof, sunken floor (for a pool, perhaps?) and a hand-painted mural of a beach vista.

The kitchen and living area is similarly wild, with more exposed rock on show, as well as a set of oversized dining chairs carved from wood that features a gauche butterfly and water reed motif, which is also seen on much of the kitchen’s cabinetry.

Each of the bedrooms is similarly odd, boasting strange artwork, myriad dream catchers and a generally quirky aesthetic.

To say this home has been owned and designed by an eccentric is a bit like saying the ocean has fish in it.

And, for roughly $1.67 million, you would either need to be an overly enthusiastic palaeontologist or a very big fan of the ’60s cartoon to call this ‘Flintstone’ home good value.
