The absence of a typical club scene in Palm Beach, with only its historic Palm Beach Surf Lifesaving Club in place, speaks volumes about this tranquil Gold Coast suburb. Set against the ocean’s soothing soundtrack, this beachside strip is seemingly far removed from the city’s clamour.

Tucked between the Burleigh and Currumbin headlands and crisscrossed by peaceful canals, “Palmy”, as the locals fondly call it, has embraced its newfound cool kid status. Here, sunny days often lead to a scramble for the perfect parking spot – a small price to pay for living in an increasingly en-vogue postcode.

Beachside belle of the ball

Troy Dowker of Kollosche paints Palm Beach as a seaside village that meets urban chic.

“The area attracts young families with its laid-back vibe, close to major shopping, schools, beaches, and a thriving cafe culture,” Dowker explains. “Meanwhile, baby boomers stake their claims along the premium beachfront stretches of Jefferson Lane and The Esplanade, often for both living and leisure.”

Over time, Palm Beach’s property market has sizzled, becoming hotter than the pavement in peak summer. Domain’s latest House Price Report clocks the median house price at $1.65 million, up a staggering 93.7 per cent in five years.

“Although we’re not expecting monumental growth this year, certain pockets of Palm Beach are poised to excel,” Dowker adds. “With a tight supply and few buying opportunities, the suburb remains prime for investment, whether moving within Queensland, coming from interstate, or simply trading locally.”

Laid-back lifestyle and locks

Amelia Jane Hextell, founder of Milly the Space, has anchored her salon in Palm Beach. This beauty boutique is a haven of coastal calm, mirroring the neighbourhood’s relaxed yet refined setting.

“Five years ago, my partner and I were drawn to the Gold Coast on a whim and immediately fell in love with Palm Beach,” recalls Hextell. “Now, we proudly call this suburb home, and in just over two years, our salon has become a local darling.”

As Palm Beach shakes off its modest past, it dresses in the latest commercial chic, with trendy eateries, quaint bars, and upscale boutiques adorning its streets. Hextell’s salon contributes to this refined coastal vibe.

“We’re incredibly grateful to call this place home, where hard work fosters community and opens doors to wonderful opportunities,” she says. “Palm Beach holds a big place in my heart — large enough to pursue big dreams, yet intimate enough to still feel like home.”
