More than 70 new apartments are step closer to being constructed at Jamison Centre as part of a new mixed-use precinct.
Morris Property Group and Colliers have revealed fresh details about the $30-million Parc project, which will encompass 74 units across three buildings and close to 1000 square metres of commercial space.
Construction of the project between the shopping centre and Redfern Street is due to begin next year.
It is almost entirely made up of two and three-bedroom apartments, with only six one-bedroom units on the cards.
Colliers International residential project marketing director Derek Whitcombe said most residents would be housed among 33 two-bedroom apartments and 35 three-bedroom apartments as a result of community feedback.
“Morris Property Group asked us, through our marketing of [the nearby] Bowman Villas townhouse project, to talk to people who came through and find out what it is they want as part of the apartment project,” he said.
“It became obvious a lot people wanted single-level, spacious apartments.”
Mr Whitcombe said many of those interested in Parc were existing Macquarie residents looking to downsize, as well as younger workers who wanted to be close to the CBD without facing the hustle and bustle of city of life or higher property prices.
Morris Property Group director Barry Morris said about 70 per cent of the apartments would have a northerly and easterly aspect, with westerly units overlooking parkland.
Four levels of apartments will be built on top of about 1000 square metres of ground-floor retail space facing Jamison Plaza, including a shared courtyard for outdoor dining.
Mr Morris said a number of parties had expressed interest in the commercial space, which will provide pedestrian links to the existing shops.
He expected a mix of retail including eateries, as well as medical facilities to serve an aging population.
“I think the reason these sorts of developments are popular is because services already exist there…there are a full range of retail facilities literally across the road. This is adding to the vibrancy of it.”
Parc will be released to public on August 19 and represents the second stage of new development at Jamison.
Bowman Villas, a 26-townhouse project nearby, is nearing completion, while the construction of another 23 townhouses along Redfern Street, Redfern Rise, is expected to begin in late 2017 or early 2018.
