An enormous waterfront mansion is ready for its next chapter in Port Lincoln, on South Australia’s Eyre Peninsula.
The solid brick home at 36 Lincoln Highway has a 70-metre frontage, a boat shed and private beach access.
“It’s just the most beautiful seaside town, you’ve probably got more millionaires here than anywhere else in Australia,” said agent Karen Lombe from Harris Real Estate.
“A lot of people came from Croatia and Greece and made it really big in terms of fishing,” she explained.
Port Lincoln was long purported to have had the highest proportion of millionaires per capita, with southern bluefin tuna in particular in huge demand for export.
Ms Lombe said the Lincoln Highway home had never been on the market before, and was built by a local family who had spared no expense.
She described it as sitting in a blue chip area. “It’s millionaires’ row – it’s where everyone wants to be.”
Ms Lombe said while a buyer might want to update the bathrooms and the entrance hall, the rooms themselves were spectacular, and potential buyers could move in quite comfortably.
She said the owners had been considering putting an infinity pool over the clifftop, and at one point had permission to build a jetty though that may have lapsed.
As it is, the home comes with an indoor pool with diving board, as well as a gym, games room, and specially hand-made crystal lighting – qualities that made it stand out from the crowd, Ms Lombe said.
“They’re as rare as anything – especially with this quality,” she said. “And the views are to die for.”
Build in the mid-to-late 1980s, the four-bedroom, four-bathroom house on a 3702-square-metre block is for sale by expressions of interest, closing January 22.
A change in circumstance had prompted the listing of the property, which is about 10 minutes’ drive from the local airport.
Ms Lombe said the Port Lincoln market was holding up well. “It’s like anywhere – if things are priced properly, they’ll sell,” she said.
With a population of around 16,000, Domain figures show Port Lincoln recorded a median house price of $330,000 over the 12 months to September, with 6.3 per cent growth year-on-year.
The most expensive sale in the town this year was a waterfront three-bedroom house on a 604-square-metre block at 2/3 Bridge Crescent, Port Lincoln, which sold for $1.35 million in February.
Another waterfront three-bedder at 2/37 Monterey Drive sold for $1.34 million in September.
