The bunker was designed to protect a family of three in the event of a nuclear attack.
Buyers in the town of Great Yarmouth, UK, have the chance to buy an original 1950s underground bunker for just £10,000 ($AU19,000).
It’s a unique offering that could appeal to history nerds and doomsday preppers alike, with the listing dubbing it a “rare opportunity to purchase a piece of British post-war history”.
The bunker was built in the 1950s during a period of heightened anxiety about nuclear war following the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in the summer of 1945.
Today, the bunker is owned by a local farmer who works the surrounding fields.
It’s a peculiar sight, located in the middle of a field in an isolated part of rural England.
From outside, the only hint that anything lies beneath the surface of the earth is two small stacks of concrete blocks.
A dingy-looking trapdoor with a rusty ladder leads down into the bunker.
Inside, the accommodations are sparse and clearly the worse for wear. There’s a cupboard, a couple of folding desks, and a tiny toilet nook.
Graffiti on the walls indicates this has long been a haunt of local kids, with a noughts-and-crosses board sketched on the wall in black marker.
The bunker will go to an online auction on December 4, with a guide price of around £10,000 to £20,000 ($19,000 to $38,000) plus fees.
