“It’s a very tight community with the benefits of having the city on its doorstep,” says Mills.

“And within Jerra, the local shops are pretty much in the centre. So, no matter where you live, it’s a good 15 to 20 minute walk. You can take a walk with the family and chat about the week or the weekend and go get your coffee or your milkshake and then walk home.”

This family-friendly vibe is a major drawcard for residents. The local primary school boasts a waiting list, while the recently opened Jerrabomberra High School adds to the suburb’s appeal. Even Mills and his wife made the move to Jerra themselves five years ago.

“As soon as we were looking to have kids and settle down, Jerra was just a no brainer,” he says.

For cafe-style all-day dining with plenty of options to keep everyone in the family happy, head to Suppeto Collective. If you’re there on Friday or Saturday nights, you may even catch some live music. Or, for a hearty pub meal, try the Jerrabomberra Hotel – don’t forget to grab a ticket in the meat raffle.

See & do

Lace up your shoes and hit the walking trails of Mount Jerrabomberra. A hike up here will make you feel like you’re up in the Snowy Mountains, and you may even spot kangaroos or a wombat on your walk.

Jerrabomberra is also home to the new Regional Sports Complex, with state-of-the-art sports fields and facilities now open. Indoor facilities and an exciting aquatic centre are still to come.
