There’s never a better time than the new year to set goals and get your finances in order. Whether you’re saving for a deposit or wanting to shave down the cost of your rent, the new year is a good time to act.

On this episode of Domain’s Property Unpacked podcast, Domain’s money and advice editor Daniel Butkovich shares five ways to use the new year to kickstart those property dreams or reaffirm your current financial position.

“For renters … have a shop around. We’ll probably see less competition in the new year with less overseas migration. So if you’re thinking about a change, now might be the time to start shopping around,” Butkovich told the podcast.

Also on this episode we are joined by Brendan Coates, Grattan Institute’s program director for household finances, and independent economist Saul Eslake to discuss stamp duty reform and what impact it could have.

In the spirit of the approaching new year, we are also joined by Domain’s lifestyle editor Ashleigh Austen to chat about what trends we’ll see dominate our homes in 2021.
