It’s been one month since public auctions returned to Melbourne, and over six weeks since the ban on private inspections was lifted.

Buyers, sellers, renters and real estate agents have welcomed the lifting of restrictions with open arms, expecting it to give the market a much needed shot in the arm after months of subdued activity.

This week on Property Unpacked, Emily Power, editor of Domain Magazine and Domain Review provides an update on how Australia’s biggest city for auctions is faring one month in.

“Over the weekend, a buyer who had not set foot inside a five-bedroom home in Malvern East paid $5 million under the hammer for it,” Power told the podcast this week.

“That was the highest auction sale of the weekend. If that doesn’t show that the auction market in Melbourne is back with a bang, I don’t what will.”

Also this week, Domain writer Jenny Brown discusses all-things Australian design and architecture – from why our country excels in the field, to our treatment of heritage buildings.

We also are joined by executive officer of Queensland Walks, Anna Campbell, to discuss why walkability is crucial to establishing liveable cities.
