Auctions are usually a stressful scenario, so it pays to come prepared with the right strategy.

This week on Domain’s Property Unpacked podcast, we speak with Scott Kennedy-Green, chief auctioneer at McGrath Estate Agents. Kennedy-Green has amassed 20 years of insight and experience into what makes a winning bidder – and the strategy is more simple than you’d think.

“People say: should I bid early, should I bid strong, should I come in with a solid bid or should I hang back till the auctioneer announces it on the market,” he said.

“None of those things really help you at the end of the day if your desire to be the purchaser is greater than the other bidder, and your accessibility to funds outweighs the others.”

Also this week Matt Lahood, CEO of The Agency, provides a snapshot of national holiday home demand. With many short-term holiday rentals converting to long-term rentals, are holiday homes still seen as a viable investment? With international travel off the cards for the foreseeable future, holiday hotspots could see more city-dwellers snapping up coastal property as summer approaches.
