Anyone thinking of starting a business will have a keen eye on the fundamentals of value for money and ongoing costs. Those are two good reasons to look across the border to Queanbeyan, where both are very viable options.

And they may be realised in an opportunity to buy on the street level of the Furlong Apartments in the town’s CBD. A 67-square-metre space, formerly a barber’s shop, offers broadband connection, data cabling, CCTV, air-conditioning and off-street parking.

Dania Khalil of Civium Property Group – Commercial says the space would be perfect for someone looking to start a small business.

“It would absolutely suit something like a coffee bar, eatery or specialist retail,” she says. “And the Furlong Apartments is in a great location with plenty of passing CBD foot traffic.”

The nine-storey building housing 42 residential apartments is distinguished by a connection with the town’s past through Furlong House, an original circa 1850s terrace residence.

The two-storey building was fully restored during the Furlong construction process. It sits at the front of the development and is characterised by decorative lace verandahs and internal pressed metal ceilings. It now houses small offices.

Queanbeyan itself is on a growth trajectory. Its population is projected to grow to around 76,000 by 2031, with neighbouring Googong accounting for much of that.
