A derelict Victorian mill that featured in the 1968 film has been transformed into a luxury home.

The London mill starred as Fagin’s lair in Oliver! – the Oscar-winning movie adaptation of Charles Dickens’ classic novel Oliver Twist

First built in 1882 as a flour mill for biscuit factories, the building later fell into disrepair. By the mid-twentieth century, the mill looked like the perfect hideout for Fagin and his legion of orphans.

Now, a luxury penthouse on the top floor is on the market for £1,850,000 ($AU3,670,000).

It’s a far cry from the soot-streaked slum that appeared in Oliver! These days, the two-bedroom penthouse is a high-end home in one of central London’s most coveted districts.

The derelict building was originally converted into apartments in the 1980s, making it one of the earliest warehouse conversions in the city.

“A rare opportunity to own a piece of London’s history, the home benefits from eye-catching features, such as bare brick walls, exposed wooden beams, arched windows and a fantastic vaulted ceiling on the upper floor,” real estate agency Anderson Rose said in a press release.

The 157-square-metre apartment is spread over the top two storeys. On the lower floor is a sunny kitchen with built-in wine storage and views over the River Thames.

Also on the lower floor are two bedrooms, each with its own bathroom.

On the top storey is a large lounge room nestled under the eaves, with exposed timber ceilings and a unique circular window. A spiral staircase connects the two levels.

Buyers of the apartment will have access to a shared indoor swimming pool, communal rooftop garden, bike storage, and a carpark space with an EV charger.

The penthouse is set in a historic street on the banks of the river known as Shad Thames.

“Shad Thames is a wonderful place to live. It is a peaceful environment right on the banks of the Thames next to Tower Bridge,” the listing says.

“The neighbourhood is popular with those who work in the City and many walk in every day.”
