Sydney’s Randwick has fast become a prestige suburb.
The seven-bedroom, four-bathroom Victorian estate at 87-89 Darley Road has hit the market with a grand price tag that could break the suburb record.
Elliott Placks of Ray White Double Bay, who holds the listing alongside Kate Smith, confirms price hopes are $20 million. This would surpass the current suburb record of $14.35 million with the sale of the five-bedroom, four-bathroom estate called Allowah at 52-56 St Marks Road.
Records show the Darley Road property last sold for $2,020,000 in 2000.
Called Swan Isle, the estate was built in about 1906 and is situated alongside Centennial Parklands with city skyline views from the upper level.
The property has all the characteristics of a Victorian estate with ornate ceilings, timber floors, leadlight windows, patterned cornices, feature fireplaces and decorative woodwork.
Chandeliers and bold feature walls add dramatic touches of glamour to the home.
Entertaining will be a breeze for the buyer with an alfresco zone containing a barbecue area, pool house/studio, and front and rear lawns.
There are multiple powder rooms, a media room and two home offices.
Agents Placks and Smith are accepting expressions of interest.
Randwick is tucked between parklands and beaches, just 6km southeast of Sydney’s CBD.
The median house price for the suburb is $3.28 million. This highlights an increase of five per cent year-on-year and a spike of 39 per cent over five years.
Point Piper, also in Sydney’s eastern suburbs, is home to the most expensive house in Australia.
The Baronial-style trophy estate called Uig Lodge on Wentworth Place transacted in 2022 for $130 million. Built in about 1900, the manor was purchased by Atlassian billionaire Scott Farquhar.
Domain’s House Price Report for the December 2023 quarter reveals Sydney has reached a new peak of $1.6 million. The city’s house price median rose by 10.3 per cent last year, surpassing its previous peak last December.
