'Reckless' buyer sought for 90c New Zealand apartment in fixer-upper building

The owner wants out of this apartment, the agent says, and is willing to part with it for small change.

The listing calls for a “reckless” buyer, willing to throw their hand up at a $NZ1 auction.

“This spacious three-bedroom monster offers a rare opportunity for the brave, the adventurous or the just plain reckless. If that’s not you, do not read on,” the listing says.

The reserve, which equates to 90 Aussie cents, means a buyer could snap it for far less than the cost of a cup of coffee. However, it could also soar.

The agents in charge of the campaign are Grant Elliott and Thomas Price of Ray White Auckland Central.

“Our seller is heading in only one direction – out of here,” they say in the delightfully frank listing, on New Zealand portal One Roof.

“If you’re definitely brave and/or a little adventurous or outrageously reckless – pick up the phone, we need to talk.”

The reason for the cheap deal is that the building needs recladding. This is expected to be finished next year or 2027, the listing advises.

Some of the works have been completed, providing a snapshot of what is to come.

The auction will unfold on January 30.
