Reese Witherspoon has spent more than $20 million on a seven-bedroom home in LA.

According to media reports, actress and producer Reese Witherspoon has headed for the hills, forking out $US15.9 million ($A20.7 million) on a mansion on Los Angeles’ Westside.

The Hollywood star and husband Jim Toth, a talent agent, purchased a seven-bedroom, nine-bathroom house in Brentwood, an upscale neighbourhood in the foothills of the Santa Monica Mountains.

The pair’s new sprawling property spans more than 880 square metres, according to Variety. While the English country-style mansion sold back in March, the identity of the buyers has only recently become public knowledge.

The large kitchen has top end appliances, including four ovens.

The house lies deep within one of Brentwood’s best-known canyons, and — situated on a private road behind a massive driveway gate — is reported to be one of the region’s most private properties.

The spacious abode has a formal living room with a fireplace, a dining room, large family room, a gourmet kitchen complete with four ovens and a breakfast room off to the side. There’s also a wood-panelled library, sure to appeal to Witherspoon who is an avid reader and runs a popular book club.

The home has seven en suite bedrooms, with the sprawling main suite offering a private sitting area, a massive walk-in wardrobe and dual baths.

The property offers plenty of space to entertain.

Outside is a saltwater swimming pool with spa, an outdoor kitchen and al fresco entertaining area with a large outdoor fireplace – all surrounded by manicured rolling grounds. There’s also a three-car garage, and off-street parking for 20 cars.

News of Witherspoon’s purchase comes after the star sold her Malibu holiday home late last year for more than $9.2 million.  Six months earlier she offloaded her Pacific Palisades mansion for $23.3 million.

The property was built in 1993.
