The highest sale in Australia on the weekend is a beach house bought for $7.3 million and, even after splashing that amount, the buyer may yet embark on a luxury overhaul.

The Bronte property fetched $7.3 million and comes with development approval for a flash, architecturally-designed replacement home. The existing one is still a stunner, with a large, sunny courtyard and vistas of the big blue waves.

The deal was among the 472 auctions reported to Domain, which propelled the Sydney clearance rate to 67.6 per cent. It was Sydney’s and the nation’s highest auction sale, according to Domain’s results.
