Renter’s tongue-in-cheek question about neighbour’s ‘zombie-proof house'

Home renovations are never easy.

Delays in finance, construction or availability of much needed trades and materials can sometimes mean the difference between a smooth home improvement or not.

For some, taking on the bulk of the work themselves can alleviate the reno pain.

It can also result in your hard work finding its way online.

At least this is the case for one owner-builder in Australia, when a photo of their unusual fence was shared to an Australian property group on Reddit.

“Is my neighbour building a zombie-proof house?” one individual wrote.

The photo shows a patch-work collection of what appears to be timber slats.

The slats also appear to be pieced together to form a massive fence that would not look out of place in a Mad Max film.

Unsurprisingly, the photo gained fierce reaction online.

The 'zombie proof' fence and house.

“Council enters the chat,” one person wrote.

“Is it to keep them out, or in?” a second person wrote.

“I can’t stop looking, it’s like a ‘Where’s Wally’, you just keep seeing more little things,” a third person said.

Some in the group asked the original poster to share more information about the renovations, including whether it was an ongoing build or if it was completed.

“We’re renting and just moved here last year. It was already being built when we moved here,” they replied.

“Neighbour seems to be a builder and he’s doing this by himself.”

The poster did not reveal where they lived in Australia or any details about their neighbour.

Others questioned the safety aspect of the fence and whether council should be called.

“Council are likely to say he needs Council approval but then they can still approve something you don’t want if that’s easier for them. You may still need to take him on under your states dividing/common boundary fences legislation if it’s not to your liking,” one person wrote.

“Contact the council and ask if you can view the plans because you would like to know what kind of development is happening,” another person suggested.

If the neighbour isn’t bothered by the renovation work, someone offered this advice.

“On the upside, I see a lovely dark grey wall with big pots of green bamboo in front of all that grey/white whatever it is……, “ they wrote.
