There’s a staggering $44-million difference between the cheapest and most expensive street in Australia.

Wolseley Road in Point Piper, Sydney has been named the most expensive street in Australia. It has a median house price of $45 million, which is an eye-watering 36 per cent jump on its 2023 median price, which was $33 million just 12 months ago.

Nine of the 10 most expensive streets in Australia are all in Sydney. The only exception is St Georges Road in Toorak, Melbourne.

Sydney’s most expensive streets are nearly six times pricier than the top streets in Perth, Brisbane and Canberra.

“There is a reason Sydney continues to be so popular,” senior data analyst Atom Go Tian from Ray White Group said.

“Eight of Sydney’s top 10 streets lie within a 20-minute walk of the coastline, suggesting that proximity to water remains a crucial determinant of property values at the highest end of the market.”

On the other end of the spectrum, the cheapest street in Australia is Ringwood Street in Southport, Darwin.

The typical house on Ringwood Street costs just $100,000.

Indeed, each of the 10 cheapest streets in Australia are all in Darwin’s outer suburbs.

The highest concentration of budget-friendly streets are in Southport and Zuccoli.

“This geographic pattern appears to be the inverse of what drives premium property values in Australia’s most expensive locations,” Go Tian said.

“While Sydney’s premium streets achieve their status through proximity to both natural attractions and urban amenities, Darwin’s most affordable streets reflect their distance from economic centres.”

It takes nearly an hour to drive from Southport to the Darwin CBD. In contrast, it takes just eight minutes to drive from Darwin’s most expensive street, East Point Road in Fannie Bay, to the city centre.
