Rock legend Peter Garrett makes $1.2 million return to Southern Highlands

Midnight Oil frontman Peter Garrett and his wife, Doris, have returned to the Southern Highlands of NSW, paying $1.2 million for a Kangaroo Valley property.

The two-hectare purchase was made two years after they sold their tree-change property in nearby Mittagong for $2.8 million.

At the time of this sale, the former environment minister and his wife swapped country life for a $2.7 million terrace they bought in Paddington in inner-eastern Sydney in 2015.

Their Gordon Street terrace was then renovated, and sold a week ago for $5.25 million.

The Garretts are expected to buy a Sydney base, but in the meantime will live at the Kangaroo Valley property, Hartland.

The Tuscan-inspired Hartland, with three bedrooms and a separate studio/garage, was a holiday rental before it was sold by the Patrick family, and is on about 4000 square metres of landscaped gardens and natural rainforest.

It was listed this year by Graeme Smith, of One Agency Country Living, with a $1.25 million guide price and bought in Doris Ricono-Garrett’s name.

Garrett was the member for Kingsford Smith from 2004 until 2013 when he resigned following the return of former prime minister Kevin Rudd as Labor leader.

His move to Sydney’s eastern suburbs coincided with Midnight Oil’s reforming and world tour for much of last year.

Garrett was this year made official ambassador for the #stopadani campaign.
