A young couple from Scotland became “accidental renovators” overnight.

Cal Hunter and Claire Segeren have been transforming a derelict 120-year-old mansion in Dunoon, Scotland for the past three years, after a lot number mix-up at auction.

The couple had hoped to buy a two-bed flat in Glasgow but ended up bidding £10,000 ($17,000) on a rundown property.

Turning lemons into lemonade, the savvy pair set about renovating the “Jameswood Villa” into a habitable property, with an apartment upstairs for them to live in and two apartments on the ground level to rent out.

Their Instagram page “@whathavewedunoon” now has 276,000 fans and follows their journey as “accidental renovators”.

Photos reveal a new roof and walls have been installed, and the bathrooms have been completed to a high standard with impeccable tiling and a modern colour palette.

The kitchens have also been installed, with just a bit of carpentry and decorating to finish in the coming weeks.

The couple have also relied on the help of willing volunteers to transform the villa.

Proving just how dedicated they are, Cal and Claire have been living in a tiny caravan on the site during the build.

The couple have also been filming their renovations for a BBC documentary.
