Mawson’s suburb record has been surpassed by $375,000 with the sale of 231 Beasley Street for $1,855,000.
The grand seven-bedroom, four-bathroom residence is on a 1430-square-metre block and features more than 500 square metres of living area. The home was designed to accommodate extended family with separate upstairs and downstairs living quarters connected by an entrance hall with a sweeping jarrah staircase.
Its generous proportions are exemplified by five living areas and 3.4-metre ceilings throughout.
Agent Alexander Anlezark, of Instyle Estate Agents Canberra, said theelegantly designed home epitomised the true definition of space, sophistication and style.
“There’s beautiful feature lighting throughout and you’ve got the solar-heated swimming pool that’s surrounded by landscaped gardens,” he said.
There were two registered bidders at the auction on April 7. The home was passed in under the hammer at $1.76 million and after an hour of negotiationswas sold.
“There was no precedent for a home of that type in the Mawson area,” Mr Anlezark said.
“A beautiful local family has bought it and it will offer them plenty of options in the future, with grandparents coming to live with them soon.”
Initially when the home was built in 2016, it was not intended to be an investment.
“The vendors bought the block of land with plans to live there but a change in circumstances meant they had to move interstate,” Mr Anlezark said.
“They originally lived two blocks up from the site and when it came on the market they bought and custom designed the home.”
Mawson’s previous record was set in 2015 with the sale of 8 Jelbart Street for $1.48 million.
Mr Anlezark believes only one other home in Mawson has the potential to break the record.
“There’s no current plans to put this on the market so I think this record will hold for quite a while,” he added.
