US singer-songwriter Halsey could have a real-life nightmare on her hands after snapping up One Direction star Liam Payne’s California home.
Halsey has been revealed as the buyer of Payne’s stunning Monte Nido mansion which sold for $US10.161 million ($A13.1 million), Dirt reports.
The One Direction star made very little profit on the home, after claiming it was haunted. He paid $10 million for the home in 2015, listing it for sale for $US14 million in 2018, then cutting the price to $US10.75m, Forbes reports. The home, set in the hills above Malibu, was also offered as a high-end rental in recent years, first for $40,000 a month and then $50,000 per month.
The Spanish-style home has space aplenty, with five bedrooms, 7.5 bathrooms, as well as a pool house and guest house.
The main residence features a gourmet kitchen, formal living and dining room, a home cinema, an impressive library encircled by a second-floor gallery and a lower level entertaining space with a wine cellar.
Outdoors there’s an al fresco dining and living area complete with a fireplace and television, manicured gardens, a pool, waterfall and a koi pond. Then there’s the pool house with a gym and guest room.
The property also has a recording studio, sure to be used by Halsey, who released her third studio album Manic in 2020 – which featured the hit song Graveyard.
While the purchase has certainly given the singer something to smile about, she could be in for a supernatural run-in, with Payne previously telling reporters his then-girlfriend Cheryl Cole thought one room was haunted.
“Cheryl wouldn’t stay in the top room, being pregnant with the baby,” he told reporters.
“I’ve seen lights go on and off in the middle of the night and a few little creepy things, like taps turning on and off.
“If you don’t believe in it, I don’t think it can get to you.
“But Cheryl was like, ‘I’m not sleeping upstairs’. So, we slept downstairs in the cinema room. First World problems.”
It may not be an issue for Halsey, whose previous lyrics have included: ‘I’m begging you to keep on haunting me’.
Hopefully, she won’t have to add this purchase to the record of the wreckage of her life.
