This Evatt home has come a long way since its present owners’ first inspection that brought back memories of the iconic 1980s cop show, Miami Vice.

“Inside it was painted in those popular pink and grey pastels,” Scott McCallum says, recalling that moment some 17 years ago.

“I don’t think other groups that went through could get past the colours.”

Scott and wife Kylie snapped up the three-bedroom, two-bathroom McHugh Street home and began what Scott called “a really slow renovation”.

Most of the upgrades were purely cosmetic rather than structural bringing the kitchen and bathrooms, particularly, up to contemporary living expectations.

The open plan home is characterised by timber flooring throughout and highlighted by chocolate beams and neutral colours.

Bifold doors to the lounge/dining areas increase the sense of space, opening on to the substantial entertaining deck.

“One of our favourite aspects of the home is the ability to enjoy the outdoors,” Scott says.

“We pretty much use the deck consistently from the beginning of spring until winter rolls around.”

Another favourite spot is a courtyard on the other side of the home that Scott says is perfect for a morning coffee or a quiet read.

The Evatt location has also proved a winner.

“It’s a great neighbourhood and only about a five-minute walk to the Evatt shops,” Scott says.

Buses run nearby and there are plenty of schools in the area with the local primary just a stroll away.

“We’ve really enjoyed living here and we’re sure the home will have broad appeal, particularly to young families,” he says.

The home sits on a 734-square metre, Colorbond-fenced block, and has a double garage and a garden shed.

$900,000, EER: 3.0
3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, 2 parking spaces

A Narrabundah home is set for sale by auction for the first time since it was built 62 years ago.

The elevated Caley Crescent home has views toward Black Mountain Tower and is sure to attract plenty of interest when it goes to auction on August 12.

Pam Frost, whose parents owned the three-bedroom home, has fond memories of growing up in what was then a fairly new neighbourhood.

“There were plenty of kids to play with and the bush was really only a couple of streets away,” she says.

“And the park opposite was always the site for a community get-together on bonfire night with crackers and rockets -just great fun.”

Pam says she and her brother have mixed feeling about the sale of the home with the memories that it contains.

“It’s taken us a while to get to the point where we’re ready to let it go, but we believe it’s time now,” she says.

“It would make a great family home, but we’re realistic and understand a new owner might have other plans.”
