In the middle of the Murramarang National Park you’ll find a small, secluded village with picturesque beaches, lovely scenery and abundant wildlife.
South Durras is a hidden gem of the NSW South Coast and is the setting for this weekend’s Allhomes Facebook live auction.
Located just 15 kilometres from Bateman’s Bay, off the Princes Highway, South Durras takes just over two hours to reach from Canberra by car.
One of the main streets in the town is called Canberra Avenue and it’s not surprising as many territorians flock to South Durras for the summer holidays.
While the town booms with tourists over the summer period, at 2016 census South Durras recorded a population of 341.
Bruce Campbell is one of those residents. He has been living in the seaside town for 44 years.
“I used to come here as a boy, camping, and I came here to live when I was 22,” he says.
“My favourite part of the town is the ocean, there are fantastic beaches in the town.”
Campbell is the former owner of the Murramarang Beachfront Nature Resort, and is known as the “King of Durras”.
“I have lived in a lot of places on the coast and there’s none that have caught my eye quite like South Durras,” he says.
Nowadays, he spends half his year at South Durras and the other half at Hamilton Island but says that in the past few years he has spent more time in the south coast town.
The township of South Durras is tightly held. In 2017 only six houses sold in the town. There’s also no more available land to build on and subdivisions are no longer allowed.
“Sales are a rare find in South Durras, so when a home hits the market there’s a lot of interest,” says Campbell.
This weekend, 37 Banyandah Street will go under the hammer.
The three-bedroom home epitomises your typical coast house. It has great bones, with a spacious design and a nifty mezzanine loft that’s sure to please the kids.
It’s only a short stroll to the beach and makes for the perfect holiday house, great for weekend getaways or your next family home if you’re after a seachange.
Allhomes will be live broadcasting the auction of the South Durras home on our Facebook page this Saturday at 11am.
