A unique rammed-earth holiday house is for sale in Swansea on the east coast of Tasmania.
The house is right across the water from the Freycinet Peninsula, where over 300,000 tourists a year flock to see Wineglass Bay.
The one-bedroom, one-bathroom beachfront shack is part of a collection of 29 self-contained cottages that make up Piermont Retreat.
There’s an existing management agreement with the retreat, but the owners will also be able to use the holiday shack themselves during set periods.
The cottage has high vaulted ceilings made from dark timber and rich, textured walls thanks to the rammed-earth construction.
A brick-lined fireplace in the living room is perfect for chilly Tasmanian nights.
Around a corner is a moody charcoal bathroom with a rain-head shower, leading off a large bedroom.
Melbourne-based architects JCB designed the cottage, and design firm Hecker Guthrie was in charge of the interiors.
All furniture is included in the sale of the property, from the bed right down to the curtains and rugs.
The buyers will have access to a tennis court, outdoor pool, private beach, kayaks, mountain bikes, and an on-site restaurant shared with other guests.
Piermont Retreat was first purchased in the 1990s by Rupert Von Haniel-Niethammer, a German forester who originally planned to grow walnut trees on the site.
He later turned it into a tourist accommodation business, and the company is still run by his daughter.
The waterfront cottage is for sale with Hugh Hardy of Abercrombys and Leanne Dann of Elders Real Estate Swansea.
The shack is listed for $950,000.
