An English castle and estate for sale for the first time in 700 years is reportedly gaining interest from US President Donald Trump and pop superstar Taylor Swift.

But you will need to have a healthy bank balance to vie for the stunning abode, with a price tag of more than £21 million (AUD$42 million) set for Ripley Castle Estate.

Ripley Castle is located 4.8 kilometres from Harrogate, in North Yorkshire, in northern England.

The privately-owned castle and estate is located on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park and is a popular tourist attraction.

It has been in the Ingilby family for 700 years.

Now the current owners, Sir Thomas and Lady Emma Ingilby, have made the decision to sell the 190-hectare estate, which includes the 14th century castle, a lake, a deer park, woods and parkland, agricultural land, shooting grounds, a village store and even a hotel.

The sale is being handled by Carter Jonas Estate Agents, which is offering the property as a whole or in nine separate lots.

Lot 1 is the castle itself while lot 9 is the The Boars Head Hotel and Birchwood House, which offers accommodation, a bar and restaurant.

According to the listing, Ripley Castle forms the iconic centrepiece of the estate.

Entry is via an impressive gatehouse built in the 1450s. It leads to the Carriage Lawn and The Old Tower – the tallest and most imposing part of the castle itself.

The building ranges in age from 1555 to 1786, with the exception of the coach house and stables, which followed 24 years later.

The castle includes a reception hall, inner hall, various alcoves, an oval drawing room, and a second larger drawing room, which offer views over the lakes and deer park.

A feature of the hall is a magnificent cantilever staircase.

There is also a library, tower room, Knight’s chamber and an entire east wing and estate offices, which have been used to run a successful wedding reception business.

The east wing is near the gift shop and coffee shop, which sits opposite The Tea Room and car park.

The parkland plays host to a wide range of commercial and community events, including lakeside concerts, classic car rallies and the Ripley Agricultural Show.

The new owners will be able to set up home in the castle apartment, which is set over two floors serviced by a private staircase.

The apartment included three reception rooms, 11 bedrooms, six bathrooms and a two-bedroom caretakers apartment.

It is where Sir Thomas and Lady Emma Ingilby raised their five children.

They told UK media outlets they are selling the castle estate so they can travel and spend more time with their children and grandchildren after working seven days a week on the estate and spending almost $5 million on upgrades in the past five years alone.

Lady Emma reportedly told ITV News that President Trump was welcome to check out the estate and could land on the helipad if  he wanted to “come and have a look.”

She was equally happy for Swift to view the property, saying she and her granddaughter were fans of the singer.
