A stubborn tenant who wants to stay in a listed property has climbed into bed and fallen asleep, inserting himself in the campaign photos.
The renter has his back to the camera, cuddling the doona on the single mattress in the high-rise apartment in the city of Sunderland, in the UK.
With a listing price of £53,00 (about $103,000), the property is aimed at investors – if they can look past the person taking a doze in the advertisement.
The renter does not plan to leave, the listing discloses.
“The current tenants have lived in the property for several years and have consistently paid their rent for the duration of their stay,” the Rightmove listing says. “They do not have any intentions to move out so hope to remain in the property.”
The one-bedroom pad has a kitchenette and a bathroom and is very compact. It was not tidied up for the photo session, with a towel on the kitchen floor and dishes, rags and a saucepan left out.
After the listing went viral on social media, the agent or landlord appears to have removed the photo of the napping tenant. But it had already been shared far and wide, including on X (formerly Twitter) and in the British press.
The current rental rate for the home is £6000 a year ($AU11,700) but with a new lease, that could be increased to £7200 ($AU14,120), according to the listing.
X lit up when the photo started to the do rounds. User @amyalby2904 shared the full listing with the caption: “Enjoying my favourite pastime having a browse through Rightmove”.
Amy said she remembered the lengths went through to make her own home presentable.
“I remember selling my old property and the agent was particular about moving furniture etc around for photos. I can’t stop laughing.”
A follower comment: “Gives it that lived in look”.
The building has a “vintage seventies vibe”, the listing explains, in an area where overnight holiday lets attract $150 per night.
The charming property has been renovated, and is walking distance – in a plum suburb – to the sparkling harbour.
The cool loft-style apartment makes smart use of space, thanks to the bedroom on a breezy mezzanine level.
