There is much more to this suburban Sydney house than meets the eye and a buyer agrees, handing over almost $1 million for the keys.
The Blacktown address looks like a regular cottage-style family home from the street. But, like an optical illusion, beyond the classic paved entry and streamlined façade it has a whopping ten bedrooms.
The price guide of $800,000 has been obliterated, selling for $987,000, and contributing to Sydney’s 67.4 per cent auction clearance rate.
The weatherboard, double-storey property is a short-term rental, banking $2000 a week, the listing explains, in the city’s thriving outer west.
The surprising and versatile property is on the books of agency Starr Partners Blacktown.
“If you crave space and separation, this stunning home is for you,” the listing explains. “Featuring a unique layout, it’s ideal for a home office, accommodating teenage kids, or providing a comfortable space for the in-laws.”
One of the ten bedrooms is a detached studio and four bathrooms service the house, which is on a 556-square-metre block, about 34km west of the Sydney CBD.
Blacktown’s median house price of $930,000 is the result of 13 per cent growth over 12 months. Over five years, the median has soared 36 per cent, Domain’s latest House Price Report shows.
The kitchen with breakfast bar connects to a covered deck, and that is not the only outdoor space the new owner can enjoy, with a pergola and balcony also on this main communal level.
Five bedrooms are on this enormous ground floor.
The lower floor contains four bedrooms, access to the studio, and a second kitchen and living zone.
A below ground-level car port opened into the backyard.
