It is not common that Sydney is trumped in the battle for the week’s highest auction deal.
But on the weekend, a landmark Brisbane estate captured the nation’s top spot with a mega transaction.
The most expensive sale at auction in Australia on October 5 was 122 Abbotsleigh Street, Holland Park, which went for $5 million.
The handsome home, named Mathers’ House, was built in 1937 for a prominent retailer, and was sold by Place Estate Agents New Farm.
The estate spreads 1650 square metres and includes a Spanish Mission-style mansion overlooking vast, manicured grounds.
From its bougainvillea-draped terraces, to the city views, romantic timber staircase and modern flourishes, the property marries the old world with the new and doesn’t scrimp on high-end detail.
“Upon entry you are greeted by wisteria framed arches, the original solid mahogany door, art deco wallpaper and a vintage 1930’s glass display cabinet,” the listing explains. “The interior of the home is a harmonious blend of classic and contemporary design.”
The agents behind the campaign were Sarah Hackett and Lauren Marmotta.
The country’s second-highest sale on the weekend belonged to Sydney.
The Wahroonga home, which transacted for $4.55 million, is eco-smart and reuse rain water. It is also fitted with solar panels.
The glass encased pool has a leafy outlook, in a suburb on the coveted upper north shore.
Pello Upper North Shore agents Caitlin Hardy and Alex Mintorn handled the deal.
