A piece of The Beatles history is up for grabs thanks to Yoko Ono.
The late John Lennon’s New York home which he shared with Ono, his wife, has hit the market for $US5.4 million ($AU8.3 million). Ono, now 91, and their son Sean Lennon are selling the SoHo property.
As stated on the listing by JLL Capital Markets, the couple purchased the two-storey building at 496 Broome Street in 1971, before they settled on their long-term residence on the Upper West Side.
The Beatles, consisting of Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr, formed in 1960 and are widely considered to be the most influential band of all time.
The property for sale has an art-deco exterior with its geometric patterns and mosaic glass detail.
It’s in a highly-desired spot of the Big Apple, with SoHo home to designer boutiques, art galleries and high-end restaurants. Hudson Square and Tribeca are just moments away.
The two-storey building consists of a main living space, kitchen and loft-style bedroom on the ground floor. Another living space and a former recording studio are on the upper level.
Interiors feature high ceilings, timber floors, whitewashed walls, a stainless-steel kitchen and exposed brick walls in the bathroom.
Paul Smadbeck and Guthrie Garvan of JLL Capital Markets suggest on the listing that the space could be used as a home, retail space, office, restaurant or art gallery.
Lennon was the co-lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist of The Beatles. The rock band are known for their hits including She Loves You, Let It Be and Love Me Do.
After leaving the group to embark on a solo career, Lennon collaborated with multimedia artist Ono on albums and films from 1968 to 1972.
They wed in 1969 and separated from 1973 to 1975.
Lennon was shot multiple times by a fan outside the Dakota building in New York in December 1980.
