“Andy and I are going to enjoy our last wet room together.”
The Block, final weeks. And after a couple of months of living together, some contestants, it seems, couldn’t be closer.
But love is lost on others, with spats ahead.
In the meantime, Ben is on the hunt for a bath caddy for their challenge apartment, which teams are halfway through.
“Ten weeks ago I didn’t think I would be stressed about a bath caddy … I didn’t know what a bath caddy was,” he says.
On the other hand, noted man of style foreman Dan, know his caddies from his cushions.
This is his reaction to Kim’s “toilet paper” terrace pendants.
Will then vandalises Kim’s artwork, which was still wet after being driven down from Newcastle by the artist.
“I love Will” is finger etched in the paint.
Kim loves him … not.
The tradies are overworked and request Kim hustle the teams and ask them to put in a bigger effort, and help out more. Seems fair.
But instead, the claws come out.
Julia calls Kim a bully, Kim calls her passive aggressive (and Will “the most two-faced person” for good measure) and come auction day, it’ll be hammers at ten paces.
But Sasha sums it all up best. “Slap yourself and get over it.”
On to judging, which Neale Whitaker, Shaynna Blaze and Darren Palmer will do without knowing which team created each room.
In Andy and Ben’s ensuite, a high-tech voice activated system (named Honey) flirts with Darren. He asks Honey for “privacy” and voila.
You’ve never seen anyone so excited about toot glass that frosts up on cue.
Dan and Carleen nail their bathroom as well; so much so, the judges think it’s Will and Karlie’s doing.
And Will and Karlie are so far wrong in their bedroom … the judges think it’s Andy and Ben’s.
Ouch.
Karlie blames their slender budget, but Kim reveals they still have $2000-plus in the kitty.
“Budget that.”
In Julia and Sasha’s kids’ room, the judges fail to feel the warm and fuzzies. Neale says it’s the most joyless, grey children’s room he’s ever seen.
For Darren, the metal post bed is the stuff of nightmares. “That’s a split temple waiting to happen.” He knocks his bonce against it to demonstrate the danger.
What a bunch of misery guts.
Out on the terrace, Kim and Chris had a $17,000 budget (the most of any team) and splashed out on a banquet-sized table, cinema screen and statement lights.
The judges go gaga.
And award the Newcastle couple the win, shaving $20,000 off their reserve.
Julia goes whack: “They need the $20,000 because they have a shocking apartment.”
Second are Dan and Carleen, with $15,000 off reserve, and third are Andy Ben, awarded $10,000 off reserve.
Next week, the teams compete for choice of auction order.
