The Block judges have been slammed as bitches, bogans and every imaginable curse word by the show’s under-pressure teams.
But on Tuesday night, at a champagne soiree to celebrate the end of the project in Port Melbourne, all but one couple buried the hatchet with them ahead of this week’s auction finale.
Judge Neale Whitaker called Kim and Chris’ powder room (read: spare toot) “a prison cell” during the last reveal of the season.
And the Newcastle husband and wife were in no mood to raise a glass in friendship.
Kim decided to “say it to their face” and explained to Whitaker and Darren Palmer that she was hurt by some of the negative comments and low scores during the season, particularly for their final rooms.
“You have to understand … they are never ever personal,” Whitaker said.
“We judge in the moment, based on what we see. The comments I make are honest.”
It was strained and Darren’s ‘eek’ face said it all.
Five couples have toiled for more than 60 days to transform a dump of a former soap factory on Ingles Street, with heritage protection, into luxury apartments capable of fetching upwards of $2 million at auction.
Producers organised a rooftop barbecue with booze, in the tradition of Foreman Keith’s “peace sausage” from earlier in the season to smooth over old wounds.
Sasha, one half of the Melbourne team with partner Julia, thanked Shaynna Blaze, Darren Palmer and Whitaker for their “constructive criticism”.
As expected, when Moet flows, all seems to be forgotten.
Andy treated Shaynna to an amorous embrace, even after she scored he and teammate Ben a measly 5 out of 10 for their main bedroom in the challenge apartment.
Even Kim and Chris, who were bickering with Julia and Sasha over the length of a shared dividing wall, hugged it out.
But the love will likely be short lived, with teams will soon be at war again over potentially hundreds of thousands in prize money.
The auctions will be held this weekend, with the episode airing on Channel Nine on Sunday night.
The auction order will be revealed at the start of Sunday’s season finale.
The teams and their agents will be fighting for buyers as the properties go under the hammer on Saturday, back to back, with the results held under lock and key.
Julia and Sasha scored perfect tens for their challenge apartment kitchen this week, and won the right to select their auction order.
Next to choose auction order are Queenslanders Will and Karlie, followed by Perth’s Dan and Carleen, and Kim and Chris from Newcastle. Geelong mates Andy and Ben will cop whatever is left.
In the past two seasons, the teams that have scheduled their auction in the middle — either second or third — have snagged the winner’s purse.
All teams will collect any dollars made over reserve, and the team that eclipses reserve by the greatest margin will also pocket a $100,000 victors’ cheque.
On last year’s Triple Threat series, also in South Yarra, Dea and Darren Jolly collected over $900,000 in winnings, and were also the third auction.
The Glasshouse season, in neighbouring Prahran, was won by Sydney brothers Simon and Shannon Vos. They were the second auction, and netted $435,000.
