The Block 2017 bedroom four recap: Pool drama drowns out last room reveal

 The planned installation of a $15,000 pool has taken the turf war between neighbours on The Block to the next level.

Ronnie and Georgia were left speechless as Jason and Sarah, then Clint and Hannah, demanded payment for proposed crane access via their properties – plus an hourly fee for any work taking place outside the planned schedule.

After tense and at times teary negotiations, an expensive compromise was reached.

The Perth pair will now have to pay a minimum of $15,000 on top of their initial pool cost ($7,500 to each team) to have their backyard dreams come to fruition.

“I can’t believe this is what it’s come to. I just feel like people who you thought were your friends are just in it for themselves and are actually greedy,” said Georgia, who was in tears during the negotiations.

“If anything, this has now given me motivation to work even harder and just win every room and shove it in their face a little bit, I suppose.”

The teams on the north side of The Block – Sticks and Wombat and Elyse and Josh – had already agreed to any necessary crane access, for free.

“I’m so glad we’re on the south side right now,” said Elyse.

In a room reveal week where guest bedrooms were supposed to take centre stage, instead it was the nasty pool negotiations that stole the limelight.

But Ronnie and Georgia were still able to celebrate at the end of Monday night’s episode after receiving a perfect score for their front guest bedroom, in a tie with Josh and Elyse, who also scored 30 points.

The completion of the rooms also marked the completion of the interior of the houses after nine weeks in the competition.

Again, the judges seemed stunned by the standard of the rooms.

Ronnie and Georgia’s inclusion of an en suite with the guest bedroom was the icing on the cake for the judges, who had already been raving about the opulence of their room design.

“I love it, it’s absolutely amazing,” said Shaynna Blaze.

“People are going to walk in here and be absolutely blown away by the romance of this room,” said Neale Whitaker.

Though Josh and Elyse did not include an en suite, their room’s colour palette and styling received similar reactions.

“That’s my favourite colour palette of the day,” said Darren Palmer.

“It is full of many individual elements that shouldn’t work together, but they do,” said Whitaker.

Sticks and Wombat tried to wow the judges with more gadgetry, with a TV that dropped down from a ceiling fixture. You get the impression those two would just love any dwelling with a remote control (or three) for each room.

This time, though, their whiz-bang feature make an impression with Palmer describing the television as “very clever, very cool”.

Hannah and Clint decided on a flat-pack wardrobe which ended up overwhelming their room because of its dark colour.

“I like the wardrobe but it’s very, very dominant,” said Whitaker. “It doesn’t feel welcoming”.

They ended up in last place as a result, but admittedly the scoring was tight.

Jason and Sarah had one of those weeks where their scores were impressively high but they still managed to only make it into third place.

After a blow-up with Keith earlier in the week and his hardline stance during tense negotiations about Ronnie and Georgia’s pool, Jason was about as far removed from showing his “soft side” as you could imagine.

But with Sarah’s touch for styling, the judges said the couple was hitting their stride at the back end of the show.

They praised their strong execution, with Palmer saying the resulting room was “luscious”.

When the final scores were revealed there was celebration among the winning couples but a lingering sense of tension among the contestants.

“It’s getting more and more tense as time goes on but I suppose it’s the pointy end of the competition,” said Josh.

At the end of Monday night’s episode, Ronnie and Georgia took to the backyard with shovels with their building team to start digging the hole for their pool.

The teaser footage showed a disastrous moment where a water main was struck at 11.30pm.

Unfortunately Ronnie and Georgia might get a rather large and unwanted natural pool … or lake … as a result.

The final scores for the front guest bedroom week were: Jason and Sarah on 28.5, Hannah and Clint on 25, Ronnie and Georgia on 30, Sticks and Wombat on 28 and Josh and Elyse on 30.
