You could see the enormous sigh of relief when Scott Cam told the contestants they’d be leaving behind the drama and stress of hallway week and going back to basics for the next challenge, a good old bedroom.
This is in fact bedroom number four in this family-sized home, so you’d hope the contestants would be all but experts by now. And you know what, they are. I think we’re seeing the best bedrooms this week; less money to work with is making them all work smarter and harder.
Sarah and Jason have developed a really lovely and elegant room this week, I love the stained glass window and the maturity of the space. It’s grown up and it’s gorgeous. I love that they’ve gone out all with heritage features. These two have found their happy place. Let’s hope that after weeks of “woe is us”, they stay there.
Hannah and Clint’s room has the most stunning wallpaper but it feels very feminine. But this is Hannah’s style and I like that it ties in with the master suite. Yet no marks from me for the flatpack wardrobe. This is The Block and I don’t think a flat pack cuts it.
We’re seeing Ronnie and Georgia at their best this week. No fuss, just back to basics, but they’re executing this well. They’ve created a beautiful room, mostly courtesy of Georgia’s divine styling and they’re on the way to delivering the most gorgeous en suite…. that wash basin is stunning. It’s also The Block at its best, when contestants are really injecting their own style and finesse into the rooms, using great local artisans. I wish there was more of that this season.
I also love that Ronnie and Georgia have nabbed a cupboard from Gumtree and are restoring it. Brilliant.
Sticks and Wombat have also delivered a clever guest room, complete with the most amazing cupboards and the hidden gadget TV is very clever. But I’m not sure what sort of angle you’d have to be on to view it happily. Bonus points for these two with taking on and responding to feedback. Constantly. And, trust me when I say Wombat can cook. The Wombat Stew is delicious.
Josh and Elyse are on track to deliver another swish room but I can’t help feeling it’s lacking a bit of soul and flair. It’s a tad safe for me and at this point in the competition I’d hope for a bit more panache.
My vote goes to Ronnie and Georgia this week; a beautiful room and I think what must be my favourite en suite on The Block. It’s a case in point that bigger rooms are not always the way to go.
